Hi There!! How is your week going so far? Well I hope!!
So for this week the palette of the week was the Tarte Be a Mermaid and Make Waves palette. Here are the looks I completed this week with this palette – look 1, look 2, look 3.

There are 14 shades, 3 mattes and 11 shimmers. When this palette first came out I used the heck out of it. I remember LOVING it!!! My experience this week with the palette was a different experience. When this palette came up on the randomizer I already knew I was going to like it and felt it would stay in the collection. However, I was unpleasantly surprised and I was really disappointed.
When I first got this palette, Bubbles was my favorite shade. But when I went to use Bubbles this time around, twice actually, I was so disappointed in it’s performance. Maybe it’s because I have used other palettes and I have higher expectations now? Whatever the reason, this palette just let me down. Day 2, look 2 was the worst day. I ended up pulling in other palettes to try and cover up the look I had done with the Tarte Be a Mermaid and Make Waves Palette. I was so unhappy with the look that day. π¦
For each look, I used the 3 matte shades to set up the foundation/base of my eye look. I found myself wishing there was a deeper shade, maybe a deep berry brown or satin black, to really deepen and anchor the looks. The performance of the shimmer shades felt a bit inconsistent to me. Some performed really well and some I found I had to keep packing on the lid to get the intensity I wanted and some never achieved the intensity I was looking for. The stand out shimmer for me this time around was Cavern. It had the intensity, undertones, and usability I was looking for. Salt Water was a close second to Cavern.
I am technically decluttering this palette from my collection, however, my youngest daughter loves this palette. So I have decided to give it to her for some play makeup. π
Do you have this palette? Have you ever experienced absolutely loving a palette when you first got it, forgot about it for a bit, and then when you came back to it you just didn’t like it as much as you used to? Total bummer!
