Low Buy challenge – Eyeshadow Palette edition…

So last year I tried to do a “no buy” from all makeup. Basically, I wasn’t going to buy any makeup that I didn’t need. I could buy makeup that I needed to replenish, like mascara, etc… but only when I needed it. Make sense?

Well…………………….

I. failed. miserably. 😥

So far this year (I know, we are only two months in, but there have already been a ton of palettes launched or sneak peeked!), but I have been pretty underwhelmed by most of the eyeshadow palettes that have been launched/previewed to be launched. There are a couple of exceptions but most of the palettes I’ve seen just aren’t exciting me. I am finding myself saying, “I have that” or “this has already been done”. 😦 So, I have decided to do a “low buy – eyeshadow palette edition”. I want to use the palettes I already have and I use to love.

The Rules:

  1. Duration of the low buy is 3 months – so we’ll say March through May.
    1. I am setting small, realistic, achievable goals that hopefully I can extend once I succeed.
  2. I am allowed to purchase only 1 palette within these 3 months.
    1. Hopefully, this will help me to be very selective and patient with my choice.
  3. I will focus on one palette a week to allow for my true opinion to be formed about the palette.
    1. I created a spreadsheet in excel and added all of my palette names into the spreadsheet. My husband helped me to create a formula that selects a palette at random. Every Monday I will go in to the spreadsheet and the palette selected at random will be the “palette of the week”. My goal is to complete, at a minimum, 3 looks using the palette of the week. I’ll write a short post about my experience with the palette after the 3 looks have been completed.
  4. I will post the looks I complete with the palette of the week on my Instagram account here.

My hopes for the outcome of this low-buy is:

  1. I will be more cautious/sensible with the money I am spending on eyeshadow palettes.
    1. I’ll be more selective and really think about the purchase instead of impulse buying.
  2. It will re-familiarize me with the palette of the week and allow me to determine if it is in fact a palette I love and want to keep in my collection. Or is it a palette I can declutter and/or return.
  3. I’ll be able to use up palettes I have so the money I spent on them isn’t wasted.
  4. It will encourage others to use what they already have in their collection.

So, how about you. Will you join me on this journey? I am sure I will need the accountability and encouragement! Let me know in the comments of this post or on my Instagram if you plan to join me in this low-buy challenge!
